All-New 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Roadster

An all-new aluminum bodyshell, a blistering birturbo engine and an uncompromising approach to every facet of performance set the next-generation SL eras apart.

As with every SL that's come before, we've infused our all-new flagship roadster with every last iota of Mercedes-Benz experience and expertise, starting with the vehicle's advanced spaceframe construction. Composed of nearly 90% aluminum, its chassis is both lighter and more rigid than the high-strength steel frame of its celebrated predecessor. And the result is not simply better fuel economy, but even more responsive handling and sharper acceleration.

Speaking of acceleration, the next-generation SL can rocket from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a mere four and one-half seconds, courtesy of a 4.6-liter biturbo V-8 engine featuring high-pressure Direct-Injection technology and rapid-multispark ignition that can fire up to four times a millisecond. In short, it delivers greater power -- 429 horsepower and a staggering 516 lb-ft of torque -- along with even greater efficiency than the powerplant it replaces.

But the all-new 2013 SL550 isn't just quicker, stronger and lighter -- it's also smarter. The standard AGILITY CONTROL suspension continually adapts to driving conditions by recalibrating the shock absorbers based on input from the road, as selectable "Comfort" and "Sport" modes allow you to match the ride characteristics to the mood.

As for the exterior of the next-generation SL, every square, seductive inch of its forebear has been revisited, producing a more aggressive front end, broader shoulders and an elongated silhouette. What remains unaltered, however, is the SL's instant and enduring appeal -- as well as the signature retractable hardtop that enables you to go from closed coupe to open roadster in just 20 seconds. And what you'll find inside the two-seat cockpit is every bit as appetizing: Offset by standard contrast stitching, new sculpted sport seats designed specifically for the SL face deep-cowled instruments and an exquisite center console housing the latest in infotainment technology. The meticulous attention to detail extends even into the realm of audio. Through our all-new FrontBass® technology  -- in which bass speakers are incorporated into the footwell section of the bodyshell for added resonance -- low tones remain rich and audible even during top-down driving.

It´s been nearly 60 years since the first SL took shape, inspired by a hard-nosed Mercedes-Benz racecar that took the racing world by storm in 1952. And with each subsequent generation, our flagship roadster has embodied the seamless intersection of timeless luxury and cutting-edge performance like no other car on the road. The all-new 2013 SL550 is no different -- except that now, everything is different again.
